A Gateway to Global Investment in SAR's Future Downtown
New Murabba: A Gateway to Global Investment in Saudi Arabia's Future Downtown
Introduction: The Dawn of Riyadh's Gigaproject Era
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s audacious Vision 2030 is transforming the economy through gigaprojects, with New Murabba at the heart of Riyadh. Announced in 2023 by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, New Murabba will create the world’s largest modern downtown—driven by advanced technology, sustainability, and the “15-minute city” principle.
The Vision of a New Downtown
New Murabba (“The New Square”) is developed by the Public Investment Fund (PIF) to reshape Riyadh’s core, spanning 19 square kilometers. By 2030, it’s expected to add SAR 180 billion ($48 billion) to the non-oil economy and generate 334,000 jobs.
Based on the “15-minute city” concept, essential amenities are walkable or cycle-accessible. The masterplan includes 104,000 residential units, 9,000 hotel rooms, and extensive retail/office space, situated 20 minutes from King Khalid International Airport.
At its heart is The Mukaab—an iconic, 400-meter-high cuboid skyscraper featuring 2 million square meters of floor space and immersive digital experiences to redefine retail, culture, and entertainment in Riyadh.
